Finding your passion. Archives

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

When you are wondering whether or not to start a business of your own, an idea that you are not yet ready might come to your mind. Something seems to be missing. Usually the experience or the timing is not quite right. You are of course correct. Something is always missing. We as human beings are never perfect and never will be. Year 2009 is certainly a year that a lot of people will be made redundant and a lot of companies will go bankrupt. Regardless of the sombre circumstances, there are those brave ones who will say: “I have to start with what I have and where I am, because otherwise I might not get going at all.”

The ancient cliché that the grass is always greener at the other side of the fence is true. But if you look around, you will find less immaculate lawns too. It is a matter of how you see the surrounding world.

If you feel like you are not good enough to start your own business yet, then get good. Find those you admire, and learn from them. Little by little you will notice that you will change your perspective. Perhaps you start aligning your thinking according to the industry experts. Soon you will learn the business of your dreams and how the industry works. But most importantly you will understand the value of your own business idea, and hopefully that will move you forward.

The title of this article suggests there are always people who have more than you, but also those you have less than you. Do not be discouraged by what others have. There are more people out there waiting to hear your message who can only hear it uniquely from you, than you can ever get to in your life time.

Start means start and never stop.

“Start” means begin your life as an entrepreneur, get going, and keep going. It does not mean look around, take a time out, ask someone if you are doing something right,  and then stop. You do not stop and ask yourself the following question: “Am I sure I am on the right track?” Once you start, you never look back and you never quit. Do not doubt or hesitate. Do not ever stop because you are getting closer every single day. You simply hang in there until you arrive. You stay on the course you set for yourself. You keep your promises you made for yourself. There is no one else who knows what you want and what you can do, and you will never know if you can do it  if you decide to quit. Quitting is never an alternative. How can you ever say that something did not work out if you quit? The reason it did not work out is because you quit.

Start also means that the resources you have today are good enough. Understand that if you wait till you have better or more resources, you might not start at all. It is acceptable to acknowledge that your resources are adequate but far from perfect. You simply do all you can with you have at the moment where ever you are.

You might start a business by simply doing something you enjoy but you are not making any money from. You have to have the courage to stay on your chosen path and believe that if you are doing all you can, with the current resources you have and where ever you are. Believe that you and your resources are good enough to move you to the next level. People often start businesses where they do not know how to make it fly. Sometimes you do not even know how your idea could work, but even then, just start and your idea will develop.

It is like a step off a cliff. You have to have faith in yourself to know that solid ground is going to be there if you choose take that initial stride. With out that first step, you wont know if its there.

Think about your idea as a seed you would like to plant. You simply cannot pull it out every half a second and check if it is growing. You have to trust that a tiny seed is capable of growing into a plant when it is properly nurtured by you and given time.
